Course Description

This 6-hour LU/HSW course provides architects, designers, builders, and construction professionals with a practical understanding of health and safety principles essential to modern construction practice. The course introduces regulatory requirements and Health and Safety Programs while emphasizing real-world application through hazard recognition, workplace inspections, and safe work procedures. Participants will gain foundational knowledge in personal protective equipment (PPE), environmental and site hazard management, fire and traffic safety, lockout/tagging procedures, and the safe use of common hand and power tools. The course equips professionals with actionable skills to reduce job-site risk, improve field safety, and support healthier, code-compliant project environments.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

-Explain health and safety regulations and the core components of effective Health and Safety Programs applicable to construction sites.

-Identify and select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) based on specific workplace hazards and site conditions.

-Recognize and mitigate common construction site hazards, including fire, electrical, traffic, and environmental risks, using established safety procedures.

-Apply safe practices for the operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment to reduce the risk of injury and improve job-site safety.
